Food and Drink Festivals in Moray Speyside
Moray Speyside is a place where the people excel at making music, producing and cooking great food and of course making whisky (and gin). There are great festivals throughout the year celebrating the region’s talents. The regions has some excellent walking routes so there’s even an event for that!
- Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival
- Distilled Food & Drink
- Gin Experience
- Moray Walking and Outdoor Festival
Speyfest is one of the premier folk music festivals in Scotland. It has attracted many big names over the years including Eddi Reader, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and Blazin Fiddles. This popular music event is held in July in Fochabers.
Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival
The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival is probably the definitive whisky festival in Scotland. Speyside has around half of all Scotland’s distilleries – quite a feat for such a small area. The festival takes place sometime in late April/early May and is a feast of distillery tours, specialist whisky tastings, masterclasses, music, ceilidh and more. It centres on Dufftown but you can find events all across Moray Speyside. Held late April/early May.
Gin Experience is a new annual event in Moray Speyside. The 2019 event was held in July in the lovely Walled Garden in Gordon Castle on the outskirts of Fochabers. The festival is a chance for gin lovers to meet Speyside Gin producers while tasting gin. It’s not all about gin, there’s also local food and music to add even more to the day.
Moray Walking and Outdoor Festival
The Moray Walking and Outdoor Festival is now a well established walking festival run by a small group of volunteers. Walks range from the gentle to much more demanding hikes. The festival also has a programme of outdoor events and in the past this has included bird watching, kayaking, biking and talks. Events take place all over Moray Speyside in June.
Distilled Food & Drink
Distilled Food & Drink is a relative newcomer and is held once a year. Speyside’s whisky distilleries get together for a huge event in Elgin. In addition you’ll find local beers from Moray’s array of brewers, craft gin and food producers. Speyside has a lot to offer and this is now a big summer event. Look out for Distilled at the end of August.
You might also be interested in attending one of the Highland Games in Moray. They will often have their good share of music, food and drink as well as events including tossing the caber, tug o’ war, dancing and athletics.
