Where to Golf

Golf has long been associated with the coast and many of the great golf courses are to be found by the sea. Our coastal golf courses include Hopeman, Moray Golf Courses (Old and New in Lossiemouth) and Garmouth & Kingston. Further east near the sea town of Buckie you will find Buckpool and Strathlene. Cullen is near the “border” between Moray and Aberdeenshire. The Moray Firth is the stunning backdrop for each of these courses. Benign weather conditions can give way to wind and rain making them a challenge for any level of golf player.

The rough is punishing, long grass which grabs at your club. Then there are the “whins”. Mainly gorse. These thick spiky plants are completely unforgiving and home to many a lost golf ball. It does however have golden yellow flowers which brighten up the fairways with a strong aroma of coconut!

Not far inland, going east to west you’ll find Forres, Kinloss, Elgin, Maverston (Urquhart) and Keith golf courses. Going south, deeper into Speyside are Rothes, Dufftown and Ballindalloch golf courses.

Golf courses in Moray Speyside tend to stay open during the winter months. You may have to play off winter tees which are temporary winter greens but still an enjoyable way to spend a morning in the fresh air.

Most golf courses in Moray and Speyside are 18 holes with the exception of Rothes. In Scotland golf tends to be very good value with some golf courses offering cheap day tickets. Many clubs offer club and equipment hire. It’s recommended that you pre book tee times to avoid disappointment.
